Students celebrate GCSE success at Astrea Academy Netherwood in Barnsley

Students and staff at Astrea Academy Netherwood, part of Astrea Academy Trust, are today celebrating another year of fantastic GCSE results. There were many things to celebrate including improved results in Mathematics, Modern Foreign Languages and Engineering as well as continued strong outcomes in the Sciences and Computing.

Teenagers across the country are receiving the results from exams they took earlier this year in May and June. Despite having many challenges to face, 15 and 16 year olds have recorded excellent achievements at GCSE, with the students of Astrea Academy Netherwood no exception.

The extra support paid off with many students achieving excellent results.

Among the high performers include:

  • Mihnea and Holly, who both achieved exceptional grades including 4 subjects at Grade 9, with Holly securing three Grade 9s in sciences.
  • Annie, achieved 9 GCSEs in total, achieving all at Grade 9 or Grade 8.
  • Reece whose performance across 9 GCSEs was also strong with a Grade 9 in English and a Level 2 Distinction in Engineering.

Andy Downing, Principal at the academy, said “The performances of the above young adults are exceptional, but we are incredibly proud of all the students who equipped themselves so well leading up to, and throughout, the exam season; a special thank you also to the staff at Astrea Academy Netherwood who have supported them along this journey so far. We know that the results are testament to the dedication and hard work of the students who should be rightfully proud of themselves, they have overcome many challenges, and their efforts have been rewarded. We also hope that parents and carers can share some of that pride for the way they have supported the students to get these results, which will serve as their passport to their next steps in education or employment. They absolutely deserve the grades they’ve received, and we wish them every success for the future.”

Rowena Hackwood, CEO for Astrea Academy Trust, said:

“Many congratulations to all of our young people who are receiving their GCSE results today. I know they have worked so hard to get to this point and should feel very proud of what they have achieved, alongside the support from their families and the whole school community.

“Special thanks too, to Andy Downing and his staff team at Astrea Academy Netherwood, who have supported our students with their studies. I am especially proud that we continue to chart the success of our young people as we mark the 10th anniversary of Astrea Academy Trust.”
