We are delighted to welcome you and your child as you begin the exciting journey from primary to secondary school. This page has been created to support you through this important transition, providing key information, important dates, and helpful resources to make the move to Year 7 as smooth and positive as possible.

We understand that this can be both an exciting and sometimes anxious time for families, so our aim is to keep you well-informed and reassured every step of the way. Here, you’ll find everything you need to know about what to expect, how we support our new students, and how you can help your child prepare for the next stage of their education.

We are very much looking forward to getting to know you and working together to ensure a confident and happy start to secondary school life.

Some key dates to be aware of:

16^th October 2025 –4.30pm to 6.30pm Year 5/6 Open Evening. An opportunity to come and explore Netherwood Academy and meet some key staff and find out all about what we can offer your child(ren).

31^st October 2025 – For your child to start secondary school in September 2026, you should apply for a place by this date. You can apply online

4^th and 12^th March 2026 – Y6 Offers Evening. Times to be confirmed.

April – July 2026 – Transition Team Visits to Primaries and additional Transition sessions led by the SENCO – dates to be confirmed later in the academic year.

8^th and 9^th July 2026 – Formal Transition days. Year 6 students come to Netherwood to prepare for their start in September.

First day of Year 7 – tbc.
