Values and Ethos

We want all Astrea children to learn, thrive and lead successful lives and our fundamental role is to create well-educated, well-rounded citizens ready to fulfil their potential. Our mission is to get scholars to and through university, or a real alternative, so that they live a great life full of opportunity and choice. we know the importance of breaking through stereotypical norms to improve the life chances and life choices for all our scholars.

Everything we do is to accomplish our mission and our core values, which are those of our trust. These values are important because they support the vision, shape the culture, and make a statement about what we as Astrea hold dear:

  • Scholarship – We will be informed by the best of academic and organisational thinking and research, using this where we can and expanding it where possible.
  • Curiosity – We will ask searching questions, not take things on face value, seek out the best of what is known and engage in appreciative enquiry.
  • Tenacity – We will deliver on our promises and see things through to completion. We will embody pace, urgency and determination in our focus on improving outcomes for children and on our own performance
  • Respect – We expect to treat each other with respect, in all forms of communication and interaction, and we expect everyone to embrace and celebrate difference; we also expect respect of the academy and community environment
  • Responsibility – we accept responsibility and commit to ensuring we do not place barriers in the way of students achieving the very best outcomes they can, irrespective of their back-story; we expect students to also accept responsibility for their actions

We teach an academic curriculum and family values in a traditional style so that scholars:

  • Maximise attainment
  • Develop character
  • Build cultural capital

We will achieve this through working together with scholars, their families and the wider community by having exceptional behaviour & culture, a relentless drive for high academic expectations and getting you the very best, aligned staff and developing and retaining these individuals.
